His Blessings

Recently, we have come to realize just how much the Lord has blessed us. This, of course, rouses the curiosity about how many verses there are in the Bible about His blessings.

Here’s just the beginning…

  • Blessed are those who persevere under trial, because when they have stood the test, they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. James 1:2
  • Blessed are those who do not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers. Psalm 1:1
  • Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Matt 5:9
  • Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Matt 5:7
  • Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Matt 5:8

  • Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.  Rev 20:6
  • Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Matt 5:4
  • “But blessed are those who trust in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.” Jer 17:7
  • When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, “Blessed are those who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God.” Luke 14:15
  • Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance. Psalm 33:12

Living Water – Water.org & Water Charity

Did you know that more than one in six people worldwide – 894 million – don’t have access necessary amount of safe freshwater needed to meet their basic daily needs for drinking, cooking, and cleaning?

With World Water Day coming up on March 22, 2012, here are 10 Water Scarcity Facts everyone good steward should be aware of from the World Heath Organization:

  1. Water scarcity occurs even in areas where there is plenty of rainfall or freshwater.
  2. Water scarcity affects one in three people on every continent of the globe.
  3. Almost 1/5 of the world’s population (about 1.2 billion people) live in areas where the water is physically scarce.
  4. Water scarcity forces people to rely on unsafe sources of drinking water.
  5. Poor water quality can increase the risk of such diarrhoeal diseases and other water-borne infections.
  6. Water scarcity encourages people to store water in their homes providing breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
  7. Water scarcity underscores the need for better water management.
  8. A lack of water has driven up the use of wastewater for agricultural production in poor urban and rural communities.
  9. Millennium Development Goal #7, target 10 aims to halve, by 2015, the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation. Water scarcity could threaten progress to reach this target.
  10. Water is an essential resource to sustain life.

Why Christmas

Why Christmas?

Why would God accomplish his redemption plan in this way?

Why come as a baby, as a human and live among us?

Why did God choose this way to redeem mankind?

Luke 3 describes the arrival of Jesus in this way, quoting Isaiah,
“He is a voice shouting in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming!
Clear the road for him!
The valleys will be filled,
and the mountains and hills made level.
The curves will be straightened,
and the rough places made smooth.
And then all people will see
the salvation sent from God.’”

“The salvation sent from God.” What an interesting way of describing this baby. We usually focus on a baby, gifts, wise men, angels and shepherds, but behind it all was a plan devised before creation to save mankind. A plan devised before the problem arose. Even knowing what would happen God created with a plan already in place to fix the problem of sin that would arise. It’s more than my little head can absorb. A plan to fix a problem that didn’t exist yet? Only God could do such a thing. Christmas is the revelation of God’s great redemption plan from eternity past to save mankind.

Isaiah also wrote these words,

For a child is born to us,
a son is given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
And he will be called:
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
His government and its peace
will never end.
He will rule with fairness and justice
from the throne of his ancestor David
for all eternity.
The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies

will make this happen!

To us….even as the prophet describes the coming of this baby he’s clear to tell us the purpose, the recipients…it’s US! All this was done for us. Christmas is about God’s great plan from eternity past to provide life to the man he created. I’m so glad that this celebration we call Christmas is all about God’s great redemptive plan.

This is the time of year when we see how much God loves us.

Thankful a little longer

May I take the Thanksgiving theme a little further? One day is simply not enough for me to say thanks for God’s love, goodness and faithfulness to us. I can’t help myself, but must talk about it a little more. Will you indulge me for a moment longer?

I’m thankful to God for who he is, who he shows himself to be- good, loving and faithful. Those attributes show up in our world in three ways, 1. what he has done, 2. what he’s doing now, and 3. what he will do in the future. All three declare to a watching world that God is good, loving and faithful to his creation. Here are a few of the things I have noted in these thoughts. There are many more, but this will be enough for this post. Continue reading Thankful a little longer
