{"id":14788,"date":"2014-07-02T19:05:20","date_gmt":"2014-07-03T00:05:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianrep.com\/blog\/?p=14788"},"modified":"2014-07-02T19:14:04","modified_gmt":"2014-07-03T00:14:04","slug":"slavery-vs-trust","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianrep.com\/blog\/2014\/07\/02\/slavery-vs-trust\/","title":{"rendered":"Slavery vs Trust"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #666666;\">You would think, after reading the bible as many times as I have, that I wouldn&#8217;t see much new, but every day I see something I had never noticed before. \u00a0It constantly amazes me. \u00a0How does God do this? \u00a0How does he put so many insights about life and faith in the stories of the bible? \u00a0And yet he does it over and over again. \u00a0Here is a portion of the confessions of Nehemiah and some insights into our nature,<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"left-1\" style=\"color: #666666;\"><span id=\"en-NLT-12504\" class=\"text Neh-9-16\"><span class=\"versenum\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Neh. 9:16\u00a0<\/span>\u201cBut our ancestors were proud and stubborn, and they paid no attention to your commands.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NLT-12505\" class=\"text Neh-9-17\"><span class=\"versenum\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">17\u00a0<\/span>They refused to obey and did not remember the miracles you had done for them.\u00a0Instead, they became stubborn and appointed a leader to take them back to their slavery in Egypt!\u00a0But you are a God of forgiveness, gracious and merciful, slow to become angry, and rich in unfailing love. You did not abandon them,<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NLT-12506\" class=\"text Neh-9-18\"><span class=\"versenum\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">18\u00a0<\/span>even when they made an idol shaped like a calf and said, \u2018This is your god who brought you out of Egypt!\u2019 They committed terrible blasphemies.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"left-1\" style=\"color: #666666;\">\n<div><span id=\"en-NLT-12507\" class=\"text Neh-9-19\"><span class=\"versenum\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">19\u00a0<\/span>\u201cBut in your great mercy you did not abandon them to die in the wilderness. The pillar of cloud still led them forward by day, and the pillar of fire showed them the way through the night.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NLT-12508\" class=\"text Neh-9-20\"><span class=\"versenum\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">20\u00a0<\/span>You sent your good Spirit to instruct them, and you did not stop giving them manna from heaven or water for their thirst.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"text Neh-9-20\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span class=\"text Neh-9-20\">Did you notice the portion of the text I underlined? \u00a0Instead of trusting God they chose a leader to take them back to slavery! \u00a0I read that over several times with my mouth open. \u00a0They did what??? \u00a0They chose a leader to take them back to slavery rather than trusting God to provide for them.<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Neh-9-20\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"text Neh-9-20\">And then, embarrassed at how similar my life is to this, I realized I often choose slavery over trust. \u00a0I choose the bondage of the past rather than trusting God for his goodness and provision for the future. \u00a0I worry. \u00a0I fret. \u00a0I look for someone who can lead me back to bondage and slavery to the old ways instead of trusting God for the unknown promises ahead. \u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Neh-9-20\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"text Neh-9-20\">As the Jewish people told Moses, &#8220;at least in Egypt we had our pots of meat and onions&#8230;but out here we don&#8217;t know where our next meal is coming from.&#8221; \u00a0And rather that trusting God for his care and provision in our wilderness we look for someone to help us become slaves again. \u00a0How amazingly stupid we are!!<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Neh-9-20\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"text Neh-9-20\">At least in slavery we know what to expect.
